With no background in business\u2014Jason having served over 20 years in law enforcement and Melissa working as a dental assistant\u2014they stepped into entrepreneurship of the gym with hope and determination. Just two months later, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, forcing shutdowns and threatening the survival of their newly acquired gym.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The couple faced a steep learning curve, quickly adapting to new regulations, managing payroll for the first time, and developing systems to safely operate under state-mandated restrictions. Despite losing a third of their members, the Lobaughs were able to keep the business afloat through faith, hard work, and the support of loyal members who continued to pay, even when services were limited. After navigating those early hardships, the gym began to thrive. However, Oregon\u2019s high minimum wage, costly leases, and complex regulations made future growth difficult. Looking for a more business-friendly environment and to be closer to family, the Lobaughs relocated to Tucson, Arizona, where they opened their second Workout Anytime location on East Tanque Verde Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With help from a family partner, they invested $1.2 million into remodeling and outfitting the new gym, which offers state-of-the-art amenities including cold plunge tubs, red light therapy, tanning, and personal training. The location\u2014next to a busy Safeway\u2014was chosen for its visibility and accessibility, aligning with the franchise\u2019s philosophy of simple, high-value fitness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tucson gym serves a wide range of members, from seniors to competitive athletes, and reflects the couple\u2019s commitment to community and inclusion. Now settled in Arizona, the Lobaughs are planning a third location, set to open later this year. While the upbringing was a struggle at the end of the day the owners are building their success.
