Workout Anytime Hires New Southwest Developer – Eyes Texas for Expansion

Jimmy Mak brings a diverse fitness background and passion for success to the 24/7 fitness franchise

Press Release: 1851 Magazine 11-2017

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and Jimmy Mak, the newly signed Workout Anytime Southwest Area Developer responsible for Texas expansion, believes that will include incredible growth for the brand throughout the Lone Star State.

“Texas is a huge, perfect market for Workout Anytime to grow in,” said Mak. “This is one of the fastest-growing areas of the country, and as the populations here are exploding, so is the demand for a flexible fitness concept.”

And Mak should know. Originally from Long Island and now a proud Texan himself, the newest member of the Workout Anytime team boasts 31 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, first with Bally Total Fitness and most recently as a senior vice president, partner, and general manager for Larry North Fitness.

Though Mak was not specifically looking for a new venture at the time, a chance reconnection with Workout Anytime CEO Steve Strickland delivered the perfect opportunity, one that he knew he could not pass up.

“Steve Strickland and I worked together at Bally’s and believe it or not we reconnected on Facebook,” said Mak. “I made a trip to the Workout Anytime headquarters in Atlanta, and after seeing the model and the team they had assembled, I was blown away. This model is thriving and I could easily envision where they were headed.”

Now in his new role as southwest area developer, Mak will be leading expansion efforts for the southwest region, with a specific focus this year on growing the brand in Texas. And according to Mak, things are already off to a roaring start in the state.

“We have one club open in Princeton, TX that has been really successful, and two more signed leases in Hurst and Duncanville,” said Mak. “On top of that, I just signed my own lease for a club I will be running in Plano.”

Mak’s own location, slated for 4101 East Park Blvd. in Plano, will allow the area developer to keep one hand in the day-to-day club operations that he loves while focusing on growing the brand’s reach across Texas. Specifically, Mak is hoping to start with development in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Waco, Austin, San Antonio and Houston, with additional focus on the suburbs and surrounding towns.

“One thing about the Workout Anytime model is how well-suited it is for both larger cities and
the smaller communities surrounding them,” said Mak. “Right now, my hope is to have 10-12
new signings in the next year in Texas and as many as 30-40 new clubs in the next 5 to 6 years.”

These aggressive targets make sense for a brand that is on a roll so far in 2017. In fact, Workout Anytime is currently on pace to ink at least 50 deals this year, and senior vice president of development Randy Trotter believes the brand will open an additional 75 to 100 clubs in 2018.

Trotter attributes much of that optimism to new team members such as Mak, who he believes will be instrumental in growing the brand throughout the Southwest and especially in Texas.

“Jimmy is a pleasure to work with and he really hit the ground running with his fitness experience and his knowledge of the Dallas-Ft. Worth area,” said Trotter. “He also has a knack for site selection and negotiating commercial real estate leases. We are looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Jimmy.”

Mak signing on to open his own location shows his commitment to Workout Anytime, and the brand’s commitment to growth in Texas. At the end of the day, Mak says his focus will be providing the best possible service to customers and helping people change their lives for the better.

“It’s really all about offering a convenient place for members of the community to come in and change their lives,” said Mak. “That’s why I love what I do. We help people live a healthier lifestyle and I am excited to grow this brand and spread this message throughout the great state of Texas.”
