Sylacauga and Calera Alabama Gyms Remembers 9-11

Posted on September 9, 2021

On Saturday, America will remember the 20th Anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. A horrific day where almost 3,000 Americans were killed and over 6,000 were injured in terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In the morning hours of 9/11, hijacked planes were flown into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in NYC and into the Pentagon in our nation’s capital. Another hijacked plane, Flight 93, went down in Shanksville when passengers and crew members tried to fight back and regain control of the aircraft. Across Alabama, many cities and organizations will be hosting ceremonies and events in remembrance of those lives lost 20 years ago. You can find a list below. All events are scheduled for Saturday unless stated otherwise.

WORKOUT ANYTIME SYLACAUGA: Memorial Stair Climb and Fundraiser at Workout Anytime – Friday, Sept. 10

Participants will have hour time slots on the stair climb machines with a goal to complete 110 flights of stairs, the same amount of floors first responders completed during the World Trade Center rescue mission in Manhattan.

WORKOUT ANYTIME CALERA:Memorial Stair Climb and fundraiser at Workout Anytime.

Participants will set a step goal of 2,071 steps, which was roughly the same amount of steps in the World Trade Center.

There will also be a raffle for gift cards to local restaurants and t-shirts for sale. All proceeds will be donated to the Calera Fire Department, with a donation goal of $2,000.

Calera FD will be onsite with a ladder truck and an early 1900s fire truck from the Birmingham Fire Museum will be on display.
