Workout Anytime Newsletter "The Pulse" November 2017 Lee Dittemore (Boiling Springs, SC) โWorkout Anytime taught me how to change my life and, for the first time, I finally realized that Iโm not going to be the โbig guyโ any more. - Lee Dittemore, member Workout Anytime, Boiling Springs, SC

Goodbye to the Big Guy Growing up, Lee Dittemore always embraced the role of being the โbig guy.โ Sometimes quite literally. โWhen I was in college, I weighed over 300 pounds and Iโll never forget my acting professor excitedly proclaiming that I was his โtoken fat guyโ and, from there, I was typecast,โ Lee remembered. โI loved him to death and I know he cared about me too, but hearing those words made me wonder if thatโs how people really saw me.โ Those words haunted Lee and he was determined to break out of the role that he had, until now, so cheerfully embraced. He joined a gym, quickly started losing weight and almost immediately felt better and more energetic. Then, life happened โ college graduation, first jobs, marriage, kids. He regained the weight and re-embraced the big guy role. Back at around 300 pounds, Lee joined another gym โ this one boot camp style โ and, again, lost a lot of weight quickly. Then, life happened again. โWeight loss, being healthy and staying fit has been a roller coaster of sorts in my life,โ said Lee. โI had settled with the fact that I would always just be the โbig guy,โโ he continued. โOnce again, I was around 300 pounds and, at 37 years old, I simply had decided that this is who I would always be,โ Lee recalled. Then, in April 2017, Leeโs parents introduced him and his wife to Workout Anytime Boiling Springs (SC). โHonestly, I wasn't excited; I felt like I had โbeen there, done thatโ with other gyms. But, my folks kept hounding me and offered to sign us up and pay for the membership. I figured I would give it one last chance,โ said Lee. The first trip didnโt go well. According to Lee, โmy wife almost literally had to drag me out of the house. I didnโt want to be there. I was determined not to disappoint myself again by getting on that same roller coaster.โ But this time would be different. โIn my past gym experiences, the staff would maybe show you how to use the machines and then you were on your own. At Workout Anytime, [Club Manager] DJ and [Fitness Manager] Raquel taught us things about nutrition, body types and fitness that weโd never heard before,โ explained Lee. โI was eating close to 6,000 calories per day and a lot of it was in the form of fast food. Raquel helped me understand the optimal calorie range for my body type and developed a workout for me. A few weeks later, the weight started coming off faster than it ever had but I was still skeptical. I just thought it was water weight,โ Lee remembered. To date, Lee has lost 75 pounds and recently came in third place in his first four-week weight loss challenge.

But thatโs not the currency that counts most to him. โIโm having the time of my life doing things with my sons that I didnโt have energy for before,โ beamed Lee. โIt used to be that kicking the soccer ball or playing basketball would be torture for me; Iโd play for five minutes and basketball would be torture for me; Iโd play for five minutes and then make my way back to the recliner. Now, Iโm challenging my oldest son to foot races and winning them. And heโs a fast little booger!โ Initially reluctant to attempt yet another gym membership that would end in disappointment, Lee is quick to share the credit for his success. โJoining Workout Anytime has been one of the BEST decisions of my life. The staff here has been amazing at helping me along my fitness journey and I know I couldn't have done it without them,โ said Lee. โWith my past attempts, I always knew there would come a time to climb the hill again on the roller coaster. But, this time, I understand that there is no more roller coaster. Workout Anytime taught me how to change my life and, for the first time, I finally realized that Iโm not going to be the โbig guyโ any more.โ
